In the spring of 1992 we lost our Australian Shepherd "Blue", and began the search for a new dog. It was then that I discovered the smaller version of my beloved Aussie!!

Sidekick Kennel was formed when the "Miniature Australian Shepherd" became a major part of the lives of my family and myself.

My goal is to have a smaller Australian Shepherd. For the last 10 years I have been working very hard to accomplish that goal with line breeding on my mini lines. In resent years I have added small Aussies from lines that have not been used before. This is done to be sure there is a very diversified gene pool available for the future. I will outcross to those lines and then use my smaller lines to produce the little Aussies that I love. Not all of the puppies from these crosses will stay within the mini height requirements. So this does give people who want an Aussie that is just a bit smaller a great opportunity to have a dog that fits that criteria..

When I do a breeding my priorities are as follows—Temperament /Health, proper conformation, type and then color. A pretty picture is nice but it is just a covering over the dog.

The Miniature Australian Shepherd is still considered a rare breed (hopefully someday they will just be a size variety of the Australian Shepherd) so if you would like to come to see us or other kennels in the New England States or the Maritime Provinces you can visit the ARBA or Rarities sites. There are lots of shows that you could visit to see the Miniature Australian Shepherd. You can also go to many Agility, Fly ball, or herding events in the area you live and see them there.

Please check out my breed-listing page to other sites to visit.

I urge you to research the Miniature Australian Shepherd before purchasing a pet. I do screen puppy buyers carefully, as I want my puppies to go to stable homes that are willing to commit themselves to the 12-15 years ahead with their new companions.
